Voice User Interface Design
Audience This course is intended for personnel who are new to designing and programming Speech applications. No prerequisites are needed.
Description This course is intended for programmers or business analysts responsible for designing speech recognition applications. The course provides the fundamentals of speech recognition application design and examines these concepts in real applications. Students will practice requirement gathering and create conversation scripts for an imaginary company. The course will also examine testing of VUI designs in a usability lab. The course is activity-driven with students participating in all elements of the voice user interface development process.

Objectives

Identify the properties of good Voice User Interface (VUI) design.

Explain the parts of a dialogue.

Define usability of a VUI.

Determine business and caller requirements.

Develop a “personality” for a VUI.

Develop conversation scripts.

Perform Wizard-of-Oz testing with a VUI script.

Discuss message recording and voice talent coaching.

Describe the importance of usability test in VUI Design.
